The concept of semantics is important for understanding how information is used and how information is processed in the various business contexts.  This understanding of semantics leads to transcribing the rules that govern the usage of information.  This opinion renders a view of how semantics might be leveraged in the context of business services and SOA. Abstract: These days there are a lot of discussions on the role of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), especially as large and small organizations are planning to leverage Information Technology in a strategic manner. As technology is changing at a very rapid pace, enterprises now have a unique ability to leverage them for providing innovative solution to leapfrog their competition. As the role of the CTO is relatively new, there are various roles CTOs play in an organization resulting in many senior executives expressing confusion about what is and should be the exact role of the CTO. Abstract: As Enterprises are starting to adopt Services-Oriented Architecture, they are currently in the process of transforming both their Business and IT organizations.  In this context there has been a discussion on the topic of Business Architecture with a basic consensus that Business architecture is the link between business and technology (or IT) but there isn’t any clear definition of the roles and responsibilities of this position.  Nor is there clear descriptions of the practical aspects of what exactly are the Business Architect’s activities and how should enterprises get started with this function.  The objective of this paper to help clarify these points from a practitioner’s point of view as well as help organization kick-start the Business Architecture function.
